About Your Instructor

Jennifer Smylie spent many years in her 20's travelling though South East Asia and India. This is where she was introduced to Yoga. In her early years she wanted to be a dancer but quit in her teens because she was never flexible enough to compete. It didn't occur to to her to join a yoga class because she was always insecure in her lack of flexibility and she was never going to be "good" at yoga. It was in India where she truly started to understand all that encompassed yoga and that the flexibility of a person was not the most critical component of your practice as the western world had taught her.

Over a decade she studied Ashtanga, Sivananda, Hatha, Pranayama, Bhakti, Yin Yoga as well as different styles of Meditation. This was all for her personal journey without desire to teach. In 2011 she completed her Canadian Recognized Yoga Teacher training in Nelson B.C. In 2012 she opened her own successful Yoga Studio that thrived for many years. It didn't take long to realize that what she had believed to be a hindrance, was in fact a way to connect authentically with her students and what they were really feeling in their own bodies. After years of teaching students from all walks of life she cultivated a compassionate approach to her yoga practice. She learned that the reality for the majority of students is that they cannot touch their head to the floor, or fold completely in half, or have beliefs that they cannot make the perfect shape with their bodies in a pose. She began embracing and even celebrating an authentic "imperfect" or as she jokingly describes as "awkward yoga" that modifies for individual "limits" in flexibility or other unique challenges.

Pure Flow is designed for folks who don't have a perfect practice but love a class that flows like a dance between postures, connecting movement to breath, with a soft focus on alignment while making it accessible to the to the majority of western bodies. Pure Flow is a safe space to be unique and do the practice lovingly within your personal limits.

Jennifer is a normal person, with average flexibility, with a strong understanding of yoga and a natural ability to create seamless flows while supporting her students. Jennifer also studied Nutrition and Herbal Medicine and has a Certification as a Holistic Practitioner specializing in Quantum Biofeedback. She offers these sessions remotely from her location in the Dominican Republic.
